Inventor Tutorial for the iDoor – 24 – Creating the Solid Bodies – Continued

You should now have a model that looks like the one below.

Now to extrude the top rail. To do so, do exactly as you did for the bottom rail, with the exception of the need to click on the New solid button. If not clicked, this extrusion will simply add material to the previous solid. The To setting the extents will point to the same point as the last extrusion.

Your model should now look like the one below. you will not have to make the sketch visible this time, but you do need to rename the sold body and the extrusion—-name them Upper_Rail and UpperRailExt respectively.

Now its time to trim (cope cut for you fellow woodworkers) the ends of the rails. Hit the E key on your keyboard to start the Extrude command. Change the Extents to Select the point shown in the image to the right.
