Inventor Tutorial for the iDoor – 11 – Sketching the Raised Panel
The next step is to create the plane and sketch for the raised panel, but first we will clean things up a bit by shutting off the dimension visibility for the two sketches we have already. Exit out of any sketches you may be in by clicking Finish Sketch and save the part.
Now we will make the YZ Plane visible again by opening the browser folder, right clicking on the YZ Plane, and selecting Visibility. Situate yourself so that you can see the lower right corner as well as the YZ plane as shown below…
Put your cursor over the above image to locate the correct point for the creation of the Panel Sketch Plane, then get the Plane tool and click that point, then the visible YZ Origin Plane. You now have a new plane located at the point and parallel to the YZ plane. Rename the plane Panel Sketch Plane, and start a sketch on it. Turn the visibility of the YZ Origin Plane off now, and name the new sketch Panel Profile. Normally I would turn off the Panel Sketch Plane as well at this point, but you may want to leave it on for a bit to give you a visual as to where your sketch is.
Orient your part so that you can see both points on the Rails Profiles sketch as shown below…
Now select the Project Geometry tool and use your mouse wheel to zoom in on one of the Rails Profiles panel points, and click on it. Do the same for the other. you should see the points created on the still visible Panel Sketch Plane behind the points you clicked.
If things look like they do in the image to the right (click to enlarge) then you can start sketching the panel…
