Information Errors – Source Files for Tutorial

The source files for this Inventor tutorial are here: Information_Error.zip.

It is simply a folder called Information Error containing two files, one is a blank .ipt called Information_Error.ipt and the other has a cope & stick sketch block contained within, and is called Profiles.ipt. Open the Information_Error.ipt and switch to the Manage tab. Click the Derive Tool on the Insert Panel, and double click the Profiles.ipt. part.

The Derived Part dialog will open up, and should look like the image to the right after expanding the relevant categories. Make sure the single Reference Parameter (Panel_Thickness) is coming through, the single Block (Cope and Stick), and the User Parameters as shown.

You should now have a Block folder with the Cope and Stick Block inside, and the derived Profiles.ipt should  show up just below the Origin folder.

Expand the Origins folder to expose the origin features, and switch from the Manage tab to the Model Tab. Create a new 2D Sketch on the XY plane, and drag an instance of the Cope and Stick Block into the modeling environment. You should have something that looks like the image below after constraining the block to the origin…

…finish the sketch and grab the plane tool and create a line and point plane on the line that describes the bottom of the dado groove…

Now, create a sketch on the new plane, project the same point that you used to create the plane onto the new sketch, and use that projected point to create a line tangential to the sketch  block. Throw a dimension on the line to fully constrain the sketch, & click Finish Sketch to end.

Now continue to create a few more lines/planes/sketches until you have a good five planes or so built up as shown below…
