iLogic Tutorial – 17 – Cutting the Dovetail’s Tails
Select the Loft tool from the Create panel, and change the type to Cut. You will have the dashed magenta line surrounding the solid body of the front indicating that the operation will be performed on it. Select both the front and back profiles to get the preview shown below, then click OK to accept.
Rename the loft Pin Loft, turn off the visibility of the sketches, and save the file. You should now have a cut that looks like the one to the right…
Now for the pattern. Select the pattern tool from the Pattern panel, and select the loft you just created in the browser by clicking on its name. Now click the red Direction arrow and select the lower edge to the right of the pin cut. The direction is likely going to be wrong as shown below…
…just click on the Flip button next to the arrow button you just used, and the pattern will be going in the correct direction. Now click the arrow in the Column Count text box and the 4 ul used last should be at the top of the list. Select it. Now do the same thing on the Column Spacing box to get the Tail_Spacing + Cutter_Diam formula you used on the tails. Click OK to accept the pattern. Rename the pattern to Pin Pattern and save.
