iLogic Tutorial – 14 – Extruding the Drawer Side and Lofting the Tail

Now begins the solid modeling. Turn off all planes and dimensions to get a clean layout as shown below…

…then hit the E key to start an Extrude, and click on the Drawer Elevation sketch (side profile), change the Extents to then click on the lower right corner of the front profile as shown to the right…

The extrude preview should look like the image below…

iLogic Tutorial for the iDrawer Page Fourteen Image 04 - The Dovetail Loft SketchesAccept the preview by clicking OK, then name the new extrusion Side Right A and name the solid body (in the solid bodies folder) Right Side. Now shut off all sketches except the Cutter Front and Cutter Back, then spin around till you have a view like the one to the right…

Now get the Loft tool from the Create panel, and select both tail profiles in turn to get a preview like the one shown below. The little arrow inside the preview shows the direction of the loft, and will have no effect on the outcome in this instance…

…all you need to do is click OK to accept the preview. You now have the only tail you will be creating, all others will be instances of this one. Rename the loft Tail Loft and save the file.
